COSI Partner | The Ohio State University
The relationship with The Ohio State University is a mutually beneficial partnership where COSI receives new and developing research and experts and OSU receives a way to connect with the general public for research and offer ways to showcase results.
Best of all - the general public gets to participate in cutting edge research and technology and learn about the latest in scientific advancements!

| Labs in Life @ COSI | Dr. Kathryn Jakes |
Through an innovative partnership, visitors to COSI will be able to watch research in progress as OSU scientists study body composition, physical activity, and nutrition in the Labs in Life @ COSI. The labs will contain a treadmill and cycle ergometer, instruments that measure bone density, body fat and muscle, and a breathing aparatus to measure functional capacity at rest and in exercise.
Outside the labs, COSI visitors will be able to conduct their own assessment of performance and body composition with equipment for measuring body mass index, height and weight, flexibility, and aerobic capacity. Visitors can complete a scorecard and can compare themselves to their peers as well as to some well known personalities.

| Civil Dialogues @ COSI | Dr. Susan Fisher |
COSI and Ohio State are partnering to facilitate civil dialogues about evolution and religion among scientists, the faith community, students, and the general public. The project integrates activities at OSU, COSI, and WOSU-TV.
Each year, four distinguished scholars who are working at the nexus of science and religion will be invited to participate in a panel discussion on the subject. All discussions will be in the general area of reconciling faith and reason in the age of Darwin, although the topic will change a little each year.
The panel will discussion will take place live in WOSU@COSI studios with a live feed sent to OSU campus' Fawcett Center Auditorium and all four branch campuses. Prior to hearing the panel discussion, COSI Team members will present a one act play to set up the subject for the evening.

| OSUExtension@COSI | Dr. Joe Heimlich |
This project is a collaboration to enhance achievement of mission through education in museums, zoos, nature centers, historical sites, arboreta, and similar visitor oriented attractions. As an outreach arm of Ohio State, OSU Extension has a long history of delivering current understandings obtained through research to residents in the state.
OSUExtension@COSI continues the work by conducting research and disseminating findings to museums and museum educators through projects and direct service. Through the collaboration, workshops approved by the Ohio Museums Association for professional development will be conducted throughout the state to focus on visitor learning, audience motivations, and what research shows about visitor services.
Graduate courses through the School of Environment and Natural Resources (College of Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Sciences) will be offered at COSI. Capacity building work done at COSI through partnership will also be used as a laboratory for observation by other museums from Ohio and the surrounding states. In addition, this partnership will serve as a fulcrum for grant applications providing a logical connection between institutions.

| Developmental Language & Cognition Lab | Dr. Laura Wagner |
The Developmental Language & Cognition Lab (DLCL) has been conducting short research studies with children in the little kidspace® area of COSI. Each of the studies takes 5-10 minutes to complete and involves a one-on-one interaction with a child with the parents watching. Several studies are done each day so anyone who wants to participate can do so from the ages 15 months and up.
So far, DLCL has completed studies looking at various aspects of children's linguistic and conceptual development, the ability to use verbs to describe different events, and understanding that we talk to different people in different ways (such as babies and teachers). The results of from these studies have been presented at conferences, in addition to providing a newsletter for parents telling them the results.
