Subject: RE: GISList: DEM Ransom

From:  Weaver, Christopher

And not to jump into the political arena on a listserv, but the USGS's
budget was cut in the latest budget bill while at the same time had their
duties increase. Could it be the shifting completely to GeoComm may have
been a way to shift some of their data storage and delivery budget into
something service related?

i dunno.....

cautious optimism is about all I can hope to express now about the shift in
delivery options..........
although if GeoComm has a shift in policy in the future about free access to
public domain data, i think we should all freak and storm the ramparts,
Henry V style (re: Shakespeare and British History), with our legal
teams... or better yet an army of disgruntled GIS'ers :-)
