Hi Bina,
So you are in your 3rd year and just started your CDC's as i understand from ur id. I have had some literature on courses offered on GIS at MS level in the States. I'll need to check my archives, gimme some time. Meanwhile i suggest u take up the MIS elective offered at BITS and contact Rajiv Gupta for some project on GIS. He too was interested in GIS when i communicated with him last and he's sure to have more information on academics front. There are quite a few job options in GIS in india itself, but they might not sound so lucrative as other software development offers u are likely to get by the time u r ready to take up one. But if u r genuinely interested to pursue learning and career in GIS, u'll need to do some groundwork and find out what exactly in GIS interests you. GPS as such would only be a drop in the ocean. Check the journals in Ref-Lib to know more about Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, GIS applications, Cadastral Mapping, AM-FM to name a few and get ur ideas clear. Also check www.geocomm.com and www.esri.com to pick up related info and links. I'll try to get back to you soon with info on the Univs and courses offered there. Good luck !

Hi!! feel really odd typing this out, cos all the questions posted here are so technical....but then, i thought this was the best place to really get sound advice....i'm a student of civil engineering..in my final year ...at BITS, pilani(in India). And i am seriously considering taking up GIS ,maybe masters in the US. but i have absolutely no idea how to go about things.GPS actually sounds very interesting, but i don't think universities have a separate branch as such. Anybody who could give me an idea as to what the job options are in this field n the kind of work done or maybe some sites which talk about it....please do let me know!!you'd be helping one very confused soul at the moment!! thanx!!
bina :)
