Subject: GISList: Sum: ArcGIS and MrSID
Date:  09/13/2001 11:28:55 AM
From:  Tim Mangum

Thanks for everyone for their help on this problem. We were able to figure
it out on this end. However, due to the events in New York and Washington DC
I have not been in too big of a hurry to post a response.

The problem was that the world file with the MrSID image was corrupt. We had
deleted the MrSID image from the hard drive but not the world file. In
addition, ArcGIS was reading each pixel in 1 foot increments instead of 2
foot increments. Once we corrected all of this, everything worked fine.

During all of this we did uncover something else on the ESRI website which
you might find helpful. It is article 18293.

FAQ: Why doesn't ArcMap use a MrSID file's internal georeferencing?

Answer: Reading the internal georeferencing of a MrSID file is unsupported
functionality in ArcGIS 8.1

Wonder why it is that way?

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Below is the original query.

I have got a rather "interesting" problem. I am using ArcGIS 8.1. In
ArcMap I have a map document with the data frame being projected at
NC State Plane 1927 and all the layer are at the same projection.
Everything works fine until I add the MrSID image of the County. It
shows up over 5 miles to the south west of the County. I have checked
the projection of the image and I have set it to the projected
coordinate system of NC State Plane 1927 and have set it to the
geographic coordinate system of North America State Plane 1927 and
neither one seems to make that much of a difference.

I looked at the coordinate systems info for the MrSID image and
noticed that the central meridian, standard parallel 1 and 2, and the
latitude of origin was different from all of my other layers. I changed
these items to match the other layers and it did help a little but the
image is still not laying over the County. The only other thing we can
think of is that the extent of the MrSID image is off. We have looked
at the other layers extent and have noticed that the MrSID image
extent coordinates are off. Is there a way to correct this problem? We
are all stumped on this one.

Thanks for any help and suggestions.
