Subject: GISList: Riparian Vegetation Assessment via aerial photography?
Date:  10/16/2001 05:45:02 PM
From:  Travis G. Smith

Hi Listers, et. al.,

I need to identify any existing software applications that can assist in
performing riparian vegetation assessment of true color and/or infrared
aerial photographs. Our requirements and parameters are as follows:

*The riparian vegetation should be classified into at least three
categories: woody, non-woody, and absent (bare ground).

*We would manually input what area would be considered riparian, so the
computer would only assess a designated area.

*Each photograph would be assessed separately, so they wouldn't need to
be mosaiced.

*The program must be flexible, so that we could input data from ground
truthing for each area we work in to designate what the
woody/non-woody/bare ground spectral signatures would be.

*Must handle 0.6 ft/pixel resolution photos scanned at 4000 dpi w/
potential to handle true color photos digitally at 6.2 million dpi.

If you can provide any guidance regarding existing SW applications,
contacts to explore and/or vendors that may have this type of
application development capability/experience, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!!

Thank you,
Travis G. Smith
