Subject: GISList: cad (.dxf) to shapefile
Date:  10/21/2001 12:23:15 PM
From:  Gillian McGregor

Hi.

I have very little experience of working with CAD drawings in ArcView,
but I'm sure this a fairly routine problem which someone will have an
answer to.

I am working in ArcView 3.2. I have a street map in shapefile format,
but the street names are in .dxf format as annotation. The problem is
that I want to be able to display the street names in ArcExplorer which
does not recognise the feature annotation either in its CAD format or
when its converted to an ArcInfo coverage - feature type - annotation.
Is there a way of turning the annotation into a point feature with a
label and still retaining the text angle, size etc.?

I also have a set of erf no's which are .dxf annotation which I want to
be able to join to the erf polygons through a spatial join and to do
this I need to convert them to points.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

Gillian McGregor
