Hey everybody, Just wanted to let everyone know the outcome of the licensing problem I had. To recap, I had been told by an ESRI representative that I was no longer licensed to use, or to buy extensions for, ArcView 3.2 after I upgraded to ArcGIS 8.1. They stated that this was part of the ArcGIS 8.1 license agreement. The short answer to the problem is that this particular ESRI representative was wrong. By upgrading from ArcView 3.2 to ArcGIS 8.1, we are most definitely licensed to run both versions on the same computer. I want to thank Stephen Smyrl, Pamela Jasins, Martin Chevrier, Dale Hamilton, Daniel Muzrall, Steven Botham, Alex Diamond, Brian Rusch and Richard Hoskins for your comments and suggestions. I'd also like to thank Dana Bradshaw and David Crosby for pointing out the spot on ESRI's web site where it says: "It is important to note that moving from ArcView 3.2 to ArcView 8.1 is not a trade-in upgrade. In other words, users who upgrade to ArcView 8.1 may still operate ArcView 3.2 on the same computer." (see http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcview/implementingarcgis81-4.html) This reference really helped me make my case. I also appreciate Damian Spangrud (another ESRI representative) for his response and his willingness to find out about the problem for me. Thanks everybody! I appreciate the help. -- Jeff Jenness GIS Analysis and Application Design Jenness Enterprises http://www.jennessent.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
