Kevin,
There is the Anderson land use land cover scheme that gives you different
levels and colors for the information you want to display.

There is also this website

where you might be able to get information. I have used this website for
other stuff but it has always provided me with good info.

in Arcview ?? Something that tells me residential should be this color
