Kevin,
There is the Anderson land use land cover scheme that gives you different levels and colors for the information you want to display. http://edcwww.cr.usgs.gov/glis/hyper/guide/1_250_lulc

There is also this website http://www.colorado.edu/geography/gcraft/contents.html
where you might be able to get information. Does anyone know if there is a standard legend for displaying Land Use in Arcview ?? Something that tells me residential should be this color commercail that color....etc etc...
