Subject: GISList: Web-based map server
Date:  11/06/2001 04:08:05 PM
From:  James_Geissman .. countrywide.com

Dear listers,

We have a property appraisal application deployed on the web where the user
can request a neighborhood map of the property and the comparables chosen
for the appraisal. It's deployed under NT/Win2000, and uses an old version
of a MapInfo product -- MapExcite[?\ -- as the map server. That's not
supported any longer, and we are planning to expand coverage to other
countries. And someday we may wish to remodel it as a "GIS with an
appraisal function" rather than an "appraisal engine that shows maps."

What are some recommended alternative products? MapInfo's new MapXtreme
looks okay and would probably require the smallest effort to upgrade
because of its similarity to the incumbent. However, we don't want to
paint ourselves into any corners. Any suggestions welcome. Will
summarize.

Thanks,
Jim Geissman
