Subject: GISList: Access query problems
Date:  11/07/2001 02:50:27 PM
From:  Anthony Quartararo

Ok gang, I'm not much on the technical inquires but I have been working a
problem and am stumped, probably by something very ordinary. I have an MS
Access 2000 database with a bunch of tables, queries, etc. I also am using
AV8.1 SP1 with the ESRI World data that comes in the box, nothing custom. I
am attempting to "join" and/or "relate" the layer "City" with an Access
table I created to be able to create a thematic map of the attribute data in
Access. I created the query in Access, and when I was sure the query was
returning the results I wanted, I turned it into a "make table query" so
that AV could find it when I went to "relate" or "join". Since "join" seems
to be the logical choice, I joined the layer in AV to the new table in
Access, using the correct fields and table. I know there is data in the
Access table, but after the Join operation, I query the layer and in the
attribute table for that layer, the fields are there from the Access table,
but no data in the fields where it should be.

I am using the Cities layer, and attempting to Join a table that has
CityName as one field and "Clients" as the other field. The query counted
up all clients per city for me in Access, so the new table shows me how many
Clients for every city in the database. I wanted to be able to display that
thematically by joining to the Cities layer in AV, but it isn't coming out
right. Have I overlooked something simple ?

Thanks in advance.
