Subject: GISList: SUM: file foemat of *.sid
Date:  11/26/2001 07:38:43 AM
From:  ???

Thanks for those who provide me with helpful information on the issue. There
are too many to list all the names. THANKS AGAIN. The followings are
possible solutions:

Original question:
> Dear Listers,
>
> I have some files in the format of *.sid, *.sdw and *.tab. Is there
> somesone who knows how to open or convert the files?
> Thanks in advance,

Suggestions:
1. an extension in ArcView for "Mr. Sid" files (.sid). Just load it and you
can use ArcView to view it...then with Image Analyst you can save it as any
format that you wish.
2. it is a MrSID compressed format. you can use ArcView/ Imagine/PCI to
read it. *.sdw is ArcView World for MrSID. Actually, it is a text file with
all necessary parameters for ArcView to geo-register *.sid files.
3. These are MrSid files. (Multiresolution and seamless images). There are
free viewers available from http://www.lizardtech.com/, whilst many GIS have
free plug-ins to support this type of imagery (e.g. ArcView supports it).
The .sdw is the real world referencing coordinates so they should tie in
with your other geographic imagery or vector data.
