Leon,
We have an archive of 1980 census data (not complete) that includes some
data for New Jersey. The data are described at:
http://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/plue/cenguide.html
As noted on the page, there is no direct link from the attributes to the
data as the geography is not complete (the data do not have polygons for
every unit in the 1980 census). However, a partial matching is possible.
The data for New Jersey are available at:
ftp://ftp.ciesin.org/pub/census/usa/stf/nj/3xpt/ (attributes)
and
ftp://ftp.ciesin.org/pub/census/usa/tiger/nj/bna_st/ (vector data)
