Subject: Re: GISList: Re: import of e00 using ArcView3.2
Date:  01/12/2002 11:02:03 AM
From:  Glenn Letham

Hold it a minute... how did the GISDataDepot get involved in this?
We don't "trash" your flame mail and we are not bound or commited to any one
specific format. We attempt to provide tools, tutorials, and resources to
accomodate a variety of data formats. Keep in mind that roughly 60% of the
marketshare uses ESRI formatted data and most everyone else should be able
to use it or at least import it. If you can't then I would suggest brushing
up on some fundamental skills.

.E00 and SHP is a common format and there are a number of tools out there to
help you work with it or put it into other suitable formats. My fave is FME
from safe.com... if you have problems translating data then this tool is a
must. E00 is a proprietary format, I agree, however, it's a no-brainer for
most skilled people to work with. If you think you are committed to buying
ESRI products you are mistaken. I worked with a firm that was heavy into MI
and Genamap and we routinely used source data and delivered in ESRI
formats... no problemo!

Try working witgh DTED or STDS data if you want to have fun

cheers
Glenn
