Subject: GISList: Visualisation and Simulation
Date:  02/13/2002 07:37:18 AM
From:  Graeme Brooke

Gudday, Group.

This is just a teaser to find what level of interest there is in the GIS
community at large for true terrain/urban visualisation and simulation.

As a discipline, we've been plodding on for years with 2D vectors. With the
advent of a 3D capability in our mainstream GIS software, we've recently
brought DEM's and the 3rd dimension, in general, into play, however it is my
opinion that true 3D is only achieved when we can visualise our data as a
true "out of window" view.

This, of course, requires 3D models, trees, textures, and all the stuff that
are achievable in the simulation space but haven't yet made their way into
"GIS".

Thoughts?

Ciao,
Graeme
