Subject: RE: GISList: http://www.GeoComm.com Nauseating
Date:  02/13/2002 07:37:19 AM
From:  Weaver, Chris

i'm not fond of ads either, and yes glenn uses animated ads as anyone else =
displaying ads on the net is.

...at least he is not using http://www.unitedvirtualities.com/shoshkeles.htm

or any of the other "take over your screen" ads as seen on www.sportingnews=
.com or even at the olympics (www.olympics.com) site. The one on the olymp=
ics site that I saw the other day, faded the entire screen to the ad, then =
returned the to the main page. Highly bothersome. In comparison Geocomm's=
are relatively limited in size and scope.

At least glenn is providing us all with a highly valuable service without b=
eing a royal pain.... besides he puts his name on the line every day. He'=
s on this listserv and everyone can yell and scream and he answers them in =
turn. How often have you seen Gates, Dangermond, or "fill in big shot," re=
cently trolling the listservs and usenets of the world.

I'm no friend to ads though, in fact I like glenn's comment "Perhaps we sho=
uld get rid of all the ads, open up unlimited FTP access to all data holdin=
gs, provide free career postings, give away all of the books rather than se=
lling them etc..."=20=20=20
... *sigh* ... if only....

btw, anyone read "Toxic Sludge Is Good for You! : Lies, Damn Lies and the P=
ublic Relations Industry" ??
1/ref=3Dsr_8_67_1/103-0312219-7546232)
let me know how it is :-)

Anyhow....

Robert,
if you have problems with the GeoComm site please feel free to contact us at
850-897-6778 or email directly to info@geocomm.com

Venting your childish frustrations on this list is not appropriate nor do
your remarks make any sense in today's business economy - i suggest you
consider enrolling in ECON 101 at a local instutution or maybe find an
online distance learning program that will bring you up to speed and into
the 21st century.

Perhaps we should get rid of all the ads, open up unlimited FTP access to
all data holdings, provide free career postings, give away all of the books
rather than selling them etc...
Sorry but it "aint gonna happen"

I will remind you that this is a commercial enterprise and we have staff to
pay, T1 lines to pay for etc...

Oh, and since you are so nauseated by the site try using our search engine
at http://search.geocomm.com to locate some less nauseating sites

Regards
Glenn

Ps: the Wall Street Journal recently published a column regarding TV ads now
coming online... I would love to see Mr. Heitzman's face if streaming video
ad for McDonalds popped up the next time he tried downloading some of the
free data... talk about priceless!
