Randy:
You should be able to add the data as a table in ArcMap and do a join. If the data is in a table (as opposed to a saved query) and you do not need to provide a special user name/password to read the database, you can just use the "Add Data" button, navigate to the database and then open the table within the database. If the data is in a saved query or you need a special user name/password, you need to set up a "Database Connection" via ArcCatalog. Once it is set up, you still use the "Add Data" button but navigate to the Database Connection instead of the database itself.
I have a more detailed write-up with some pros and cons on the different ODBC providers that I can send you if you are interested.
