Hello Hugo,
I suggest you try Avenza's MAPublisher to translate your Illustrator file directly into a GIS file format that can be imported in ArcInfo (www.avenza.com). MAPublisher even has a Projection editor that has a bit of a learning curve- but I've found it useful.
