Subject: GISList: Insert Block
Date:  03/06/2002 05:07:03 PM
From:  Bell, Kevin

Here's one for all you AutoCAD types out there...

I've created a shapefile that I'd like to use as a template, like a block in
AutoCAD, so that I can insert an instance of my shapefile any where I choose
(EX: where two street centerlines cross.) I'm working on a traffic volume
project and I have points for "East-Bound one way into intersection" and
"Northbound Left Turn," etc, covering all possibilities for traffic movement
through an intersection. I also have a polyline shapefile that is built to
enable errorless spatial joins so that I can look at my counts as points
(arrows) or lines showing the movement (these will be symbolized
accordingly.)

I was thinking about working out some VB code (although I'm new at it) that
would take the original, copy it and change it's extents from say 0,0 at the
center point to the new location that I click.

Is this the best way of doing this? I don't want to reinvent the wheel...
Has anyone else done this sort of thing?

I'm using ArcGIS 8.1.2 (ArcInfo) and have 3D and Spatial Analyst
