Subject: GISList: ArcSDE Question
Date:  03/18/2002 04:53:32 PM
From:  Hobbs, Jeff

Folks,

I have been trying to install ArcSDE on a Windows 2000 Professional (not
Server) machine. The first part of the setup is fine. I want to use Oracle
Spatial. As a result, I modify the default dbtune.sde file FROM: SDEBINARY
TO SDO_GEOMETRY. I then run through the setup and point to this modified
default file. When I go past this using the wizard, the software begins to
install, however nothing ever completes. It seems to just keep installing
for hours. In fact, the last time I let it run, it ran for 10 hours without
completing. I have always had to kill the installation using the task
manager. Then when I go into the services, I don't see SDE in the services.
It is important to note, that I am seeing the schema being created
correctly. I just don't get the completed installation.

Any ideas why the software won't install? Should it run on a non-server
computer? What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
