Subject: RE: GISList: rajasthan

From:  Todd Helt

Nick,

You can find a fair amount of free data for Rajasthan on our
Maplicity-powered Afghanistan Internet GIS and Satellite Image Visualization
System. In addition to all of Afghanistan, the site also includes data for
some neighboring countries including all of Pakistan, and parts of Western
India. You can freely download any of the vectors (as shape files), and
also create and download custom satellite images (with world files), create
and print custom maps, etc. There is also a complete on-line help that
explains how to use Maplicity (for downloading data, look under "File" menu,
and "Clip & Ship").

Here are the specific data layers that are available on the site:

Vectors (derived from NIMA): Airfields, Named places, Coastline, Country
Boundaries, Roads, Rivers, Lakes, Population Centers, Administrative
Boundaries
Imagery (derived from NASA ESE/SDP and USGS): Landsat TM mosaic (resampled
to 60m pixels), Hillshaded Relief, Colorized DEM.

The data is more or less appropriate for mapping at scales of 1:1,000,000.
Check the links on the launch page to the source data from NIMA VMAP0, USGS
GTOPO30, and NASA ESE/SDP for detailed information about these datasets.
Here's the URL for accessing the site (broadband connection recommended for
Maplicity Java viewers, or use MaplicityHTML if accessing from a dial-up):

Hope this helps, and please contact us directly with any questions.
