You may want to take a look at MICRODEM, created by Dr. Peter L. Guth, Oceanography Department, U.S. Naval Academy, pguth@nadn.navy.mil.
MICRODEM is a fully-functional freeware program that manipulates digital elevation models on Windows 95 and Windows NT platforms. It will accept data in the following formats: DTED, USGS ASCII for 1:24K and 1:250K DEMs, and SDTS for 1:24K DEMs. I believe there are others as well. The program also has capabilities to merge imagery and vector data sets (TIGER or DLG formats) with the DEMs.

I am in the process of developing an Integrating GIS and Remote Sensing course for a Professional GIS Certificte program. I am looking for free or demo versions of software that have some image analysis capabilities in them. I am familiar with a variety such as ENVI, Imagine, Idrisi, and ESRI/ERDAS's Image Analysis extension for ArcView.
Is anyone aware of free or demo versions of software that would work for teaching a short (3 day) course on some basic image analysis proceedures?
