Subject: GISList: Wanted: Instructor for DOD/Intelligence applications of GIS course
Date:  05/06/2002 09:53:06 AM
From:  <evillige .. gmu.edu>

Hello list,

George Mason University, Northern Virginia, is looking for some
instructors to help out with a course being offered in 7 weeks (June
6,7,&8) at our Prince William campus. The course topic is as follows:

GIS 350 Defense and Intelligence Applications of GIS

Spatial tools play a critical role in decision-making processes related
to military operations and intelligence gathering and anlysis. This
course provides an overview of the issues dealt within the intelligebce
Community and Department of Defense and how GIS can be applied to
consideration of these. Topics include sources of data, spatial
analysis operations and case studies. This course includes a
significant hands-on component providing a number of scenarios and
exposure to customized tools for specific applications. Prerequisites
are GIS 110 and GIS 300. Three-day course.

Info on our certificate program can be found at:
http://gis.ocpe.gmu.edu

We had an instructor lined up for the entire course but ran into
problems with prorietary datasets and are faced with developing new
materials for the course.

As a result we plan on resorting to a Team-teach approach with a
different instructor providing 1-day's worth of material.

IF there are any interested parties please respond to this email so I
may get in touch with you. We are specifically looking for someone that
can provide the following:

Intelligence Applications of GIS dealing with how GIS can contribute to
the different elements of the intelligence cycle (Planning and
Direction, Collection, Processing, Analysis and Production, and
Dissemintation) with some examples/case-studies and some hands-on
exercises using ArcGIS 8.1 or ArcView GIS 3.2.

Defense applications such as : Base/Facility management, logistics,
Productions, command and control, terrain analysis, 3d modeling and
visualization.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. The course is fully
enrolled (18 students) and will be running on the above dates.

Students have access to ArcGIS 8.1, ArcView 3.2 + all extensions, and
Erdas Imagine 8.4.
