Subject: GISList: RE: No fix for Avenue to VBA
Date:  05/06/2002 09:53:08 AM
From:  Dan McIntyre

Hi,

My interpretation of the website: "There is
no utility to port existing Avenue code to Visual Basic for use in ArcView
8.1.'." meant that they had developed Jumpstart to solve an existing probl=
em. The website also states: "Now is the time to port your ArcView 3.x app=
lications to the great new ArcView 8.1 functionality"=20=20=20

My point is, if this company has developed such a utility, then a porting p=
rocedure is possible (don't ask me how!).

Kind Regards

Dan=20

G'day everyone,

I just checked out the www.matrixr.com site and have to confess that I've
jumped the gun with the message about 'Jumpstart'. It cannot automatically
port Avenue to VBA. Rather it is a service provided by Matrixr to convert
Avenue to VBA. The info on 'Jumpstart' is at
http://www.matrixr.com/pages/consulting_a.html. This info states 'There is
no utility to port existing Avenue code to Visual Basic for use in ArcView
8.1.'.=20

I should have checked the site myself before forwarding the message - sorry.

Porting Avenue scripts to VBA for ArcGIS may be possible!

The below message from GISLIST suggests that 'Jumpstart' may be able to do
it. I haven't checked out the site, but it's worth a look.

Hi,

Matrix Research (www.matrixr.com) have developed an application called
'Jumpstart', which ports Avenue code in ArcView 3.x to VBA code in ArcGIS.
There are probably other companies that have developed similar applications.

Dan
