Must be an interesting scenario to come up with a recommendation for a client to go open source! It would have to be one that had a build or buy analysis come up with build. If the client does not have the staff and talent to actually build the solution they will become dependent on a sole source, the "consultant" who recommend they go open source and presumably did the work to get it running.
As long as the client understands what they are signing up for I guess that is OK. Can't imagine many scenarios for which that would be true however.
