Staff here are working on a monitoring system for a particular rare plant. They are proposing to locate the plants within a grid of about 2m by 2m. Each individual stem (there could be 1000's) would be located within that grid by measuring its distance from each of three corners of the grid. This would generate a table with the following - stem number (a unique value), distance from point A, distance from point B and distance from point C. (Due to the topography of the area, he says that it would not be practical to string out a finer grid.)
Assuming I have the original four points of the 2m grid in Arcview, is there a script that will determine the position of each point given the three distances? Does anyone have any better solutions as to how to do this without sophisticated surveying equipment?
