Sure - but the tasks were laid out in detail in the post, and the location
was given as well. I would guess Houston would be reasonably representative
of a large US city? I don't know if the skill list is.

Thanks for the link: interesting article, but I'd love to see it updated. I
wonder how (or whether) this thinking has changed since 9/11. I would guess
it has. Any rate structures pre-9/11 have likely been rethought, though,
ironically, GIS may be one area where rates might increase due to increased
perceived importance.

.. also ..

The original post is particularly curious due to the extensive, specific
technology skills. Are these really needed? It sure narrows the candidate
pool -- but that may be the idea. This seems in keeping with something of a
trend lately in the high tech market -- since there are so many qualified
people out there, some companies create the description of the "perfect"
candidate from a technology skill point-of-view, seemingly trumping other
important characteristics like team player, willingness and ability to learn
new technologies, attention to business requirements (vs. technical ones),
maturity, and track record of building maintainable/extensible systems that
meet or exceed requirements/schedule/budget.

Best regards,

-Bill

As a long-timer in the software development biz considering moving over to
the GIS side, I read the post below with interest.

I'm wondering if the rates cited below are typical / high / low for the
detailed list of skills and duties provided.

Best regards,

-Bill
