Subject: GISList: Conflicts in the Use and Development of Geographic Databases
Date:  07/09/2002 12:59:23 PM
From:  A Bethell

Dear GIS List Member,

As you know, the use of geographic information technologies is pervasive
throughout business, government, industry and the scientific community in
the United States. Conflicts are arising on a daily basis in its use.

My research in this area involves gathering the opinion of individuals about
perceived conflicts. By filling out the survey you have the opportunity to
express what you believe are important societal goals in the development and
use of geographic information.

Societal goals are of course reflected ultimately in codes of conduct,
government agency and private company policies, case law and legislation
that may affect you personally. The questionnaire takes less than 10 minutes
to complete.

I am attempting to sample a broad population of geographic data users,
managers, producers and those that are the subjects of data sets. Therefore,
please forgive cross listings. This survey is but one segment of a more
extensive research methodology. While we are interested in a full range of
respondents, we are particularly interested in poeple using geographic data
in private sector business environments.

I respect your privacy and will keep all identities confidential. Only
summary aggregate information will be reported.

Thank you in advance for your participation.

Sincerely,
