Hi Alexander,
If you're looking for free coastline data I suggets you have a look at the
Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) page. This provides an alternative tool to
standard GIS for plotting of all kinds of data and includes version of the
World Vector Shoreline dataset. You'll probably get other useful
suggestions from list members...
