Subject: RE: GISList: AV8.2 coordinate/projection question
Date:  07/31/2002 03:19:23 PM
From:  Glaser, Holly J.

Anthony-
This can be done in ArcToolbox, ArcGis 8.x

"Project Wizard: Changes the coordinate system of your dataset (coverage or
grid), including its datum or spheroid. The wizard supports coordinate
transformations between any two of the projections listed on the projections
panel. It can be used to:

convert a dataset between a spherical coordinate system with angular units
(such as Geographic) and a planar coordinate system with linear units. Most
ArcToolbox tools, among them Build and Clean, assume you have a planar, 2D
dataset. So if your dataset is in a geographic coordinate system in Decimal
Degrees (DD, angular units), the Project Wizard projects your dataset to any
suitable projected coordinate system in linear units (meters or feet)."

Subject: GISList: AV8.2 coordinate/projection question

List,

I've been working on a project that is to result in the data being
delivered as shapefiles in WGS84 LatLong DD. When I specify this to the
consultant, it seems clear, but when it gets delivered and I load it in
AV8.2, check the metadata with ArcCatalog, etc. it shows Lat/Long ok,
but NAD27, Clarke1866, GCS_Assumed_Geographic.

Elementary question, I realize, but to get the data into WGS84
projected, do I need ArcInfo 8.x, or is there a simple way to do this in
AV8.2. I believe the consultant is still using AV3.2, so I am not sure
if there is a disconnect between the two versions. Guidance is
appreciated and thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Anthony
