Subject: Re: GISList: Area with different zones
Date:  08/05/2002 07:03:20 PM
From:  David.Irving .. santos.com

Ishfaq -

If the coordinates are latitude and longitude, there isn't a problem. You'd
just use a projection that didn't have zones (just about anything that
isn't a transverse mercator projection, in other words). Lambert's
conformal conical would be pretty good, as it, like UTM, doesn't alter
shape locally. If, on the other hand, your coordinates are easting,
northing and zone, you can get the same result by first converting them to
lat and long (there are numerous bits of software around that will do
this), then using an appropriate projection.

Regards,
David

Hi buddies,

I wanted to get insights on how to work on a map data that lies in more
than
one zones. Actually, I have to generate shapefiles from ASCII files that
has
x,y values in respective zone. So, if I have to generate shape files from
these values, would I have to separate this data into its respective zones
or there is any other way to do it. Any comments in this regard would be
highly appreciated. I will sum up at the end.

Thanks
