Hi Alexander
VPFView is (was) just viewing software which could output maps for printing as postcript files. If you need to use the data in a GIS then you need a translator. NIMAMUSE was a translator, but it had a limit of around 500 nodes, so could not handle some of the large VMAP0 datasets, such as drainage. I'm not aware of any free translators, but the FME Universal Translator which ships with MapInfo can translate VMAP and is probably one of the best around. If you don't have MapInfo you can download a fully-functional 14-day trial version of the translator from Safe Software at:

best wishes
