Whoops, looks like an unbiased journalistic hit piece is on the way!!! This should be fun. As the politicians say: just spell my name right! :)
Some suggestions for your comparison matrix(from the biased positions of a Manifold proponent):
o Calm down first. From my reading of this thread no one has challenged your personal integrity except yourself. Don't give them a reason by dashing off something you can't defend.
o Since Manifold 5 is the new kid on the block a matrix with a row for each Manifold feature would be appropriate as a minimum. Certainly add rows for core features that other products have that Manifold does not. If you start we an existing matrix add rows for features in the Manifold core product that are not in the matrix.
o Clearly indicate which features are in the core products and which are "extensions". Or place extensions in different columns, which would probably make a better comparison matrix than footnotes identifying which extensions cover which features.
o Clearly identify which product you are reviewing. For Manifold, if you pick one, choose Enterprise and footnote the "Enterprise Only" features. (If you want to have a good laugh at the next ArcGIS demo you go to ask the salesman to turn off all licenses but the one s/he claims to be demoing.)
o To increase accuracy I suggest you publish a draft in the various user groups and lists. Someone that has not been working with a tool as complex a specific full featured GIS for quite awhile could do a good analysis - unless you are just reviewing the marketing literature and not the products.
o You might just want to publish a draft of the empty matrix so folks could comment on the feature/product list first. (It would be interesting to see what features users/reviewers/journalists think are core features of the products before and accurate matrix was published.)
o Have fun!
