Subject: Re: GISList: LINE OF SIGHT ANALYSIS.

Line of sight (or visibility) analysis determines what can be seen on a
surface from a point on or above that surface. Maptitude, in its Surface
Analysis commands, lets you first create a surface from regular or
irregular XYZ points or a Digital Elevation Model. To get you started,
Maptitude includes a 5-arc-minute world DEM.

Then you click on a point, type in a height above the surface (which can be
0), and give a name for a new area geographic file that is created and
added as a layer in your map. It has a visible area (which might be quite
complex) and a non-visible area (which covers the remainder of the map):
the latter is crosshatched using a Pattern theme to highlight the area that
is visible.

You can get more information on Maptitude at
(http://www.caliper.com/maptovu.htm) and a color brochure at
(http://www.caliper.com/PDFs/Maptitude45Brochure.PDF).
