We wrote a script for Arc View to calculate effective fetch values for a raster map of depths also taking into account prevailing wind directions, etc. Well, it took 8 hours on our Pentium III computer to produce a relatively small (around 1000x 1000) 2D raster map. As we are not satisfied with such a "speed", we are rewriting the algorithm as a stand-alone web based application. I would be interested in any open source algorithms for routine wave exposure/effective fetch calculations (if there are any). Thank's again for any information.
And also it would be nice to hear if somebody is using Linux clusters to perform complex mapping tasks like wave exposure calculations (2D or 3D), data mining based predictions to maps, etc. This is in our near future plans...
Best regards Viktoras
