Subject: GISList: subscription cost for website access of data
Date:  09/15/2002 01:09:01 PM
From:  ADRIAN CLARK CLARK

I am doing research to determine subscriber cost for the privaledge of
accessing data (mapping, image, attribute)over the internet. I am
interested in what government and commercial organizations charge for
this service and the options that are being offered to subscribers.

I have subsribed to sites that charge a flat rate per month or year
for unlimited query and download, as well as those that charge by the
file, quad, or other convenient means of data packaging and
distribution.

My most common need is to remotely access real property (tax assessor)
parcel and ownership information to avoid the time and cost involved
in going to the courthouse or title company to research records. So, I
thought that the collective experience of the GIS list would provide a
means for me to determine the status of the exploding ASP/DSP
(application and data provider services)technology.

Let me know if you provide or use ASP/DSP, what web server software or
vendor you use, how much you charge or pay, subscription options, and
any details that you feel might help in my research or would like to
know yourself.

I will provide a summary of the responses to the entire list, as soon
as I can organize and publish them in a meaningful format.
