The only other thing that's downloadable today I can think of is GLOBE
or gtopo30, both of which are 1km data.
Presumably the elevation data in VMAP1 is higher resolution. As an
educational institute you could file a FOIA request with NIMA for the
Guatemalan portion of VMAP1.
