Hello GISList'rs,
Can anyone recommend a good source or provide marketing and biz development
information related to quantifying the geospatial technologies market
'space'. It's that little bitty piece of the overall data, information and
IT pie from which many of us (GISlist'rs) make our livelihoods?
Here's some of the specific info that I am looking for. Obviously, beggars
can't be choosers, but any information or references to on-line info or
white papers would be appreciated. If possible, some break down by
percentage of global market share represented by geospatial consumers
(customers) in US and then perhaps by continent would be helpful. Likewise,
a breakout by customers would be very useful: What % is spent by government
customers (non-defense/intel or security), government (defense/intel or
security), NGO's, and private sector. For consistency I would prefer
estimates in USD.
1. Current annual market cap (money spent) for GIS software. A percentage
breakdown of desktop vs client-server or Internet/web-enabled would be
great.
2. Current annual market cap for remote sensing/geographic imaging (RS/GI)
software...yes, I know there is a lot of overlap in #1 and #2. So if your
information doesn't support such a break down, please just provide me with a
combined number for the overall GIS and RS/GI market.
3. Current annual market cap for geospatial data products such as satellite
imagery, detailed street data, aerial photos and imagery, etc.
4. Current annual market cap for GIS services. If you can break out
Location Based Services (LBS) from "traditional" that would also be helpful.
5. Current annual market cap for RS/GI services
6. Current annual market cap for the much touted geospatially oriented web
services
7. Projections for any or all of the above going 2 yrs, 5 yrs, or ? into
the future.
8. Who are the 5-10 largest corporate players in the GIS and Geographic
Imaging space, and what are there respective market shares (percentage).
Can you break these players into logical groupings as software vendors, data
vendors, and VAR's? What portion of their annual revenue is derived from:
a) software or data product sales, b) services, c) software
maintenance/update subscriptions
I have seen and heard bits and pieces of this geospatial market information
over the years, but not sure how much is current and also how much was just
babble or hearsay. I am hoping that someone can point me to a source where
the bits and pieces have been compiled. If you are interested, let me know
and I will be pleased to sum and share whatever I gather from this inquiry.
