Gidday thanks for all the advice -heaps of goodies here - and apologies for the delay My original question was "Hi all, any pointers to some (cheap) software out there that will allow me to orthorectify aerial images"
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ read an article in GIS User about an inexpensive kiwi product: <http://www.gisuser.com.au/GU/NEW_PRODUCTS/5_03_NP.html> Content was: ==== CompuWarp A new product from NZ-based Compudigm is claimed to have the ability to bring better quality image registration to desktop mapping systems. Registration is the process of overlaying an image such as an aerial photograph onto a map to enable it to be viewed concurrently with other datasets. The new product, CompuWarp, is given a bitmap and set of points on the bitmap whose location on the map is known. It then creates a new bitmap that has been stretched and twisted in the correct way to overlay onto the map. The product is an advance on desktop mapping tools that uniformly rotate and stretch the display of the original. This means that with any more than three registration points, the fit at the points is only approximate. CompuWarp creates a new image where all the registration points are placed exactly. CompuWarp is suitable for MapInfo and ESRI users, as it accepts the registration points in MapInfo and ESRI format, and creates the new bitmap complete with a MapInfo and ESRI registration file. Compudigm says the product has a number of applications particularly relevant to local government. It is already in use at Waimate District Council in New Zealand. Also try with Ortho Engine

try imagewarp( free extension see arcscripts page) if you have AV spatial analyst

PCI Geomatics has a software package called OrthoEngine, an easy-to-use and complete product that addresses your needs for producing high-quality 2D and 3D geospatial information for your GIS, CAD, and mapping applications.
Here are some pointers to some of our products that may fit your requirements.

I would be glad to arrange for an evaluation copy to be sent to you if you would like to try the software.

Maybe try Photoworks. Its inexpensive and it works pretty well. There are some image size limitations however. Take a look below.

I am using orthomapper www.orthomapper.com this packadge dose things others dont ''' good support to '''
chip
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ A usefull ArcView extension that can do that is "Orthorect", written by Todd Jackson. Here's his descripton:
"Summary: The OrthoRec extension allows a user to orient an aerial photograph, and then create an orthophoto using a digital elevation model. The extension also has a comphensive help document in HTML format. (See the README.TXT files for information on installing the program and help files.)"
I believe that you need the Spatial Analyst extension for this tool to work.
Here's the link: http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=10925
If the link doesn't work, look for it on http://arcscripts.esri.com/ .
Tomaz. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I found this one: http://www.pcigeomatics.com/product_ind/orthoengine/functionality.html it does a REAL orthorectifying :)
They also offer a Demo to download for free.
Regards Viktoras ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Manifold was mentioned but ... "Manifold cannot "orhthorectify" images - my mistake. I confused georegistration of orthorectified images with orthorectification."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
And here is the tech discussion that followed............
I found a really detailed article on that topic:
