To: The GIS Community From: Dan Posner, President The Florida Bass Foundation,Inc.
I received the email message listed below, from the editor of the list serv= ice. Number one, I do not feel lamb-basted. I am a GIS novice. Before ge= tting involved in this project, I barely knew what GIS meant. I spoke with= the Editor and after a short conversation with him, I want to tell you tha= t this organization is proof that the Internet works. The Internet was ori= ginally designed for the free exchange of information and ideas. All the c= onversations and email that I have received from this Community has always = been positive and constructive. You all should take pride in what you have= here. The Editor was concerned that I might be bothered by the tone of so= me of the emails. I am not! If I am doing something dumb, tell me why you= think so and I will be more than happy to add it to the decision making pr= ocess.I have received about twenty responses and think that all of them are= wonderful. I encourage the rest of you to take note of what has happened = here and realize that this is the way it's supposed to be. For future refe= rence, I will absorb all the information that you share with me and will pr= ivately or publically reply based on the information received. Please talk= about this amongst yourselves, with your friends and co-workers, so I can = get the benefit of the hundreds of years of combined experience that you al= l have. Thank you very much for your time and support. We are actively re= searching the information you have given us.
For those of you who have been following along, as a Not for Profit, Public= Charity, free is our favorite way to get anything. Novell, Compaq and Per= vasive are three companies who have consistently supported us and we rely o= n them for their hardware and software platforms. Other than that, everyth= ing is still open for discussion.=20=20
Thanks to all,
Nothing personal here, however, I believe that Mr. Posner from the Bass Foundation was fishing (pardon the pun) for help in developing some project specs, not throwing his hat in the ring so he could be lamb-basted!
Given the current activity that are currently on this list with a couple of popular discussions (to sell or not to sell data & the what timing thread) I believe that advice to him would be better served off list... don't you? Remeber, there's a time and place when its appropriate to cc: the list
Cheers Glenn
