Subject: GISList: importing metadata
Date:  12/02/2002 11:47:16 AM
From:  Peter Gillard

Greetings,
we created a lot of metadata with the FGDCmeta.aml on our UNIX workstations.
We recently began working with ARC8.1 with Windows2000, and have been having
a terrible time "IMPORTING" the .met files created with the fgdcmeta.aml.
Everything works fine except for the Attribute section. it tends to
"scramble" the attributes and not bring over the values associated with
those attributes (or places them under the wrong item.). We thought it was
"counting" (we didnt' define internal items like "lpoly, rpoly" etc.) but
that wasn't it!
Also everytime the file gets opened and it trys to "automatically update"
the file it throws the user defined items (in a list) onto the end of
section 5 - very annoying
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know of any work arounds
for it (just short of re-entering all that info!)

thanks in advance for any advice.....................
