Subject: GISList: MS SQl Vs Oracle Spatial - Summary
Date:  12/12/2002 04:38:59 PM
From:  Raghavendran

Dear Geocommunity:

My heartfelt thanks at the outset to one and all who responded to my query
on MSSQL Vs Oracle Spatial.

Sure did I receive enough replies to put me into a topsy-turvy state, but no
!! the confusion I had really decreased than what it was when I posted my
question.

Thank you for those detailed emails posted by Paul, Buzz Hiller, James O.
Brown, Mark C. Prins, Frank Warmerdam, Anthony, Robert Heitzman...and of
course the long one from Dimitri.

I did understand the basics and the basis on which one should decide going
in for either MSSQL or Oracle Spatial. Of course each one of them have their
own pros and cons. You cannot have the cake and eat it too!!!

I did read some white papers from Oracle comparing theirs with MSSQL on some
key issues. Here is the link for the benefit of one and all.
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/windows/o9i-vs-ss2k.pdf

Fundamentally, the choice is more about you and your organization than about
the software...

So I decided to carry out a benchmark on both these systems before I can
conclude.

Thank you all once again for the support.

Regards
SRG
