Well I guess this was easy. I seen the length when I right clicked to end the line, but being so close to Christmas I've been brain dead for the last week. Thanks to Gary Andersen, Bob Hyatt, Mathew Kyle, and Susan Myers. When you are creating the line in ArcGIS, place your beginning point and then right click to get a menu - choose length, enter 50 and then you will have a cursor length of 50 locked in radiating from the first point. You can make this parallel or perpendicular to existing line work using the same right click and selecting that option.
