My many thanks and apologies to all for the recent request. I had many folks send helpful information and several others remind me that a lot of necessary info was missing from my request. That's what happens at 11:30pm. I've realized it's not a simple solution by far given the state of the data and it's attributes I am working with (in this case, roads in shapefile format). My intent was to run a report to calculate how many km or (meters or miles, etc. or whatever the unit length in the attribute table was in), and given that is has several hundred thousand records, Excel chokes, so does Access, and Crystal Reports bombs out. I suspect the units are in DD since there are numbers like ".0029857" in the length field, and when I change map units to km or meters, and then use the measure tool to measure real world coordinates, it comes very close, for the given line segment, to what is in the attribute table, but no telling really. In any event, it was the thought that counted. Our client won't miss what they haven't asked for anyway. Cheers and happy new years to all.
