Subject: RE: GISList: Re: GIS P2P * Market Research Question * & Flaming

This list's predecessor imploded after a protracted flame war six years
ago. (The messages that bother Anthony pale in comparison...)

The writers of the recent offending messages deserve our pity: clearly they
cannot express themselves adequately in a public forum and, if they do not
become aware of this handicap and change their ways, they are doomed to
depressing, banal lives and careers. But they do not deserve the perverse
satisfaction of driving good contributors away, nor are they worth
discussing or responding to.

Subscribers can take action easily: blacklist the people who write
flames. Consider trying this less-Draconian method before you walk
away. (Most E-mail software supports blacklisting automatically. You can
also use spam-blocking software, such as ChoiceMail, to do this.)

Incidentally, when you are away from the office, consider unsubscribing
temporarily and reading the messages on the Web at
http://lists.directionsmag.com/discussion/ . That will speed up the
reception of your e-mail while giving you the chance to stay abreast of
listserver messages.

Cheers,
Bill Huber
