Hrishikesh: This problem was our concern once upon a time for some of our projects, we designed and developed a tool which helps in batch processing the images using ERDAS, you may contact us for further exploring the solutions, This tool is not available for commercial use but we can surely exchange the notes and share knowledge.

Dear friends, I need a suggestion for converting shapefiles into image format (GIF or Jpeg).I am using Erdas for it. I am converting shapefiles into img format (continous image) and convert it into thematic image for giving meaningful color to the classes. Like this I am making images for different themes with different colors. Then I am mosaicking them to create a single image layer with different themes. Now the file size is very big so I want to save it as Jpeg. But I am not able to save the thematic layer in Jpeg direcltly. When I save the img layer as tiff and want to open in adobe-photoshop or paintshop then I get an error message "bit depth could not be read"
I think that first I need to convert the thematic layer into continous layer and then only I will get the bit depth. Can you suggest me that how to convert the thematic layer into continous in Erdas.
Is there any other method to convert the shapefile directly into Jpeg while maintaining the pixel resolution. I am trying to convert the map of entire USA. Can I do it in single stage or I need to do it part by part.
The other method is that open the different layers of shapefile in Erdas viewer and give color. Then save the view as tif which is a continous layer and this can be converted into jpeg. But the problem I am facing is that the Pixel resolution is loosing.
Please suggest me a better way of making jpeg file from shape files or coverages.
Reagrds, Hrishikesh Prasad
