Subject: GISList: Cheap GPS Recommendation
Date:  02/21/2003 06:59:57 PM
From:  A'Hearn, William

First, pardon the cross posting.

Our Fire Prevention has $500 to spend on a basic GPS for large scale
mapping. They want to be able to capture points, and occasionaly polygons.
Then they want to put it on a Map. Since ESRI's site has scripts for
Garmin, I plan to recommend it. Any recommedations on a model, especially
one that is WAAS capable?? Any other recommendations/suggestions are
welcome.=20=20

I will summarize.

"The good cartographer is both a scientist and an artist. He must have a
thorough knowledge of his subject and model, the Earth.... He must have the
ability to generalize intelligently and to make a right selection of the
features to show. These are represented by means of lines or colors: and the
effective use of lines or colors requires more than knowledge of the subject
- it requires artistic judgment." Erwin Josephus Raisz (1893-1968).
