Subject: Re: GISList: Working with large rasters ~100Gb and GIS
Date:  03/17/2003 10:17:19 AM
From:  viktoras

I used to work with much smaller raster images and databases and it
sometimes takes couple of days to perform quite simple routine analysis on
them using just one computer.
Doubt if there is any graphics or GIS software for MS Windows able to
display, handle or even save entire 100Gb rasters easily.

Let's see three possible alternative solutions:
1) using parrallel computing system with GRASS software
or
2) hiring somebody to write specific scripts or software to analyse this
raster.
3) split the raster into pieces smaller than 1 GB and try working with them.
You should be able to join needed several pieces dynamicaly when needed.

Regards
Viktoras Didziulis
