Relative to good technical knowledge, I might try one of the larger marine dealers, such as West Marine. Another good source might be a high-end backpacking and moutaineering store, such as REI Co-op or Eastern Mountain Sport (EMS). Please also try the USENET Newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav. They have proven to be a good source of industry-specific information for me, and I'm certain you may find an answer there. Ignore the arguing that occasionally sprouts, though: just move past it and focus on pertinent answers. One should not put too much emotion into USENET postings.
Amateur (Ham) Radio dealerships like Amateur Electronic Supply (www.aesham.com) or Ham Radio Outlet (www.hamradio.com), or a local dealership (there are many nationwide) may also be able to assist you.
My ham radio call sign is N8PZT for your convenience. I am a Technician Class Amateur, and have been licensed since 1991.
Again, I wish you success on your endeavors.
Warm regards, Stephen Brown (N8PZT) thequantumfishe@chartermi.net thequantumfishe@netscape.net
Send to both emails for best results.

Ok folks. This has been a frustrating experience so far. I'm working on a project where we need to do some field data collection with GPS. This is real basic, no custom forms for the GPS, no navigation from one point to another, just collection of lat long coordinates in WGS84 for many locations, save the locations (waypoints ?) in the handheld, then upload at the end of each day (week) to a PC, post process for differential correction and then move the point file into ArcView 8.x. We priced a Trimble solution, excellent stuff but at $5K, it was overengineering a solution. Garmin seems to have a solution that fits the price point (eTrex Vista), but I can't get anyone at Garmin to tell me what to use for post processing for differential correction before putting the points into AV. Aside from that, trying to find a dealer that is knowledgeable about technical issues and has this product in stock [ Best Buy, Circuit City and CompUSA staff are funny, aren't they...] is turning out to be more challenging that the field project we are trying to accomplish.
My request is for any feedback on a basic solution that would accomplish what I've indicated we want to do. I could spend days and weeks researching, trying to weed through the marketing fluff, meanwhile, my project should be underway. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.
Anthony
