While not specific to Ethiopia and Eritrea, the USAID and the US State Dept.
sponsored a GIS for Sustainable Development project last year through the
Open GIS Consortium.
FGDC has a page of OGC web map servers and web features used in the project
at:
http://clearinghouse5.fgdc.gov/gisd/
Ionic maintains a web based client that is able to connect to these OGC
conformant servers, display the data, and manage the data layers (save your
view of the data). It can be viewed at our demo page under the GISD-ICP
client section:

I have recently been appointed as the Chief of GIS for the U.N. Mission to
Eritrea and Ethiopia. As such, I am trying to collect various GIS, mapping=
and other "Geo" related info and sites to make myself smarter regarding the
assignment.
I have the generic info re: the separation of Eritrea from Ethiopia, etc,.
What I am specifically trying to locate is ANYTHING "Geo" (datasets,
imagery, MSI, etc.)
