Subject: Re: GISList: Datasets for Change detection research project
Date:  04/16/2003 09:15:01 AM
From:  JONATHAN BYRON

NOAA AVHRR data can be found for free or low cost - some of the sets are co=
mposited and much of the pre-processing is already done. The compositing =
process takes a time period (10 days or 2 weeks), and takes the maximum val=
ue - this removes much of the clouds and other noise. AVHRR can be ocean =
related, although the sets I worked with were masked out to show only the l=
and for global vegetation index. Spatial resolution is large (1.1 km or 4=
.4 km pixel) which makes it easy to gather information when investigating a=
reas identified as changing.=20

Hey all,=20

This is my first post but I have found the commentary on the list to be ben=
eficial in my studies. I am looking for datasets that may be of use in cha=
nge detection research. The hope is for free data and for it to be of ocea=
n systems. Thanks for
the help.
